Je n’ai pas grand chose à dire aujourd’hui. C’est que le Funk est dans la place. Le funk et ses rythmes qui me font bouger la tête, les hanches, les fesses…. je me retiens de lâcher mon clavier pour enchaîner quelques pas de danse, là tout de suite.
Le funk ?
Si je t’en parle (enfin que j’essaye) c’est que ce week-end sera funk. Tu ne pourrais pas y échapper. Le funk est partout.
Toute cette histoire de funk a commencé de la façon la plus classique : Il était une funk. Ou plutôt “Funk Upon A Time”, il y avait un roi exceptionnel et adulé de tous, il s’appelait James Brown. Il avait du groove dans la voix même en parlant. Un jour, il prit sous son aile un damoiseau, encore un peu timide, mais très admiratif et reconnaissant. Portant un nom banal, Michael Jackson, les fées penchées sur son berceau lui promirent une vie incroyable. C’est les grandes années du funk. Des années légendaires : il s’y passa des trucs que personne d’un peu censé ne croirait aujourd’hui. Comme par exemple le fait que Jackson était noir de peau et qu’il s’est tenu au milieu de la foule.
Plus sérieusement, Funk Upon a Time, c’est une conférence sur l’histoire du funk des années ‘70 et ‘80. Elle se déroule vendredi soir dans l’appartement de 72 Soul, DJ, chanteur, compositeur qui en profite d’ailleurs – dans la foulée de la conférence – pour poser des disques avec quelques autres amis DJ’s qui ne manqueront pas de passer. Et moi non plus, je ne manquerai pas le rendez-vous. Et si tu deviens un amoureux transi de cette musique, tu voudras être un véritable Funk All Nighter, parce que le Funk ne dort jamais. Et c’est chez Madame Moustache que tu pourras passer ce cap.
Si tu suis mon programme scrupuleusement, tu n’auras donc aucun problème, le lendemain à répondre à la question “Do you know the funk”, au Roi des Belges. Tu auras sans doute le réflexe de répondre “Potferdek, non peut-être ?” (Traduction pour les Français qui débarquent : “Oui”). Et là, je te rétorquerai, que bien que nous soyons à proximité des Marolles, ce n’est pas Potferdek qu’il faut dire, mais “Potemfunk”. Du nom de la soirée organisée au Potemkine.
Et ensuite, c’est dimanche : les croyants iront à l’Eglise.
Et que fais-tu après l’église, la promenade dans les bois, le brunch ou le marché ou toute activité que tu juges bon de faire le dimanche ? C’est l’heure du thé, et cela ne peut être qu’à la Tea Soul Party chez Mister Emma Art Loft.
Si tu détestes le funk, mais que tu adores l’heure du thé, pas de jalousie : tu peux aussi aller danser le dimanche après-midi. Il y a Technoon à la Salle Roger et les invités sont Eric Cloutier, Peter Van Hoesen & A.Brehme.
Dans cette même salle, vendredi soir, il y a la soirée Lowup qui invite Morcee, pour la soirée de lancement de son nouvel album.
Ce qui a catché mon attention à part cette omniprésence du funk ?
D’abord jeudi à l’espace Do Not Open (qui a pris ses quartiers au Recyclart dernièrement) “Until The Light Take Us”, déjà rien que pour la description de l’évènement, empreint de poésie :
“They say that the night is darkest just before the dawn.
Somewhere in The Dark Heart Of Europe the promise is made – that one day the light will return. The prince will pour the light of justice and purity onto this forsaken place. Every life will be swept by it to face its destiny…but not all wish to be taken by the light and some will resist by all means”.
En parlant de poésie, cela se bouscule, vu que c’est jeudi également : les Muerto Coco seront au 123 à la soirée Marc Prépus & La Toy Party… Je n’ai pas le temps d’y aller, mais pas bien grave : le duo qui nous récitent des poésies contemporaines sur les sons électro font la tournée des squats et terminent au vernissage de La Bellone fait le mur ! que j’organise, pour le lancement en parallèle des Minuits de la Poésie.
Toujours en mode poétique et toujours en lien avec ma propre programmation, Le Quai nous invite à une “douce nuit de partage poétique”, c’est une soirée d’ateliers créatifs et participatifs, de concerts, … et rien que le nom me donne envie “Se Lover Au Quai”. Je veux me lover, te lover, le lover. Oui, je suis en mode love en ce moment, donc ça me parle.
Parmi les ateliers, l’un est animé par T-Time, c’est-à-dire Laurent Trierweiler qui par ailleurs exposera à la Bellone fait le mur !
J’arrête là pour cette semaine…. La liste avec d’autres liens se trouve en bas de page… Parce qu’il y aurait trop à dire : entre Les Ateliers Claus qui organisent un évènement musical dans la piscine des Marolles, les cartes postales créées par des artistes, dont la magnifique série “Les Villes invisibles” de Tamar Kasparian, à vendre tout le week-end, la soirée Exit54 au Recyclart, ou le Kabinet Urbain, sans même mentionner un festival à Leskiv (un squat à Uccle), ou encore un marché de Noël du gratuit, il y a trop à dire.
Et comme tu le remarques, je me suis à peine exprimée…

I have absolutely nothing to say this week. Ok, obviously I’m lying, as you had to scroll down a long article in French… but still, I have no much to say except that this week will be the funkiest of the year.
Funk?
The whole funky trend of the week started in a very classic way…
Funk Upon A Time, theres was a lecture planned to take place this next Friday at the private home of a Brussels based DJ, 72 Soul. For the occasion he decided to invite his friends over and it’s not a coincidence that many of them are DJ’s themselves. So after the lecture about the funk music in the ‘70 and the ‘80, you can join (or stay) for a house warming party…
The funk in the ‘80 was something incredibely legendary, by the way. I don’t know what they will talk about, but for me it is always related to James Brown, Michael Jackson and many other ones… Check the video to see a very rare and special moment of a Black Michael in the middle of the crowd (Yes, I wrote that he was black and I wrote that he was standing in the middle of the crowd… You don’t have to believe me, but Funk in the ‘80s was THAT crazy unbelievable!).
After that, I’m sure you’ll want to become a Funk All Nighter and that will be possible at Madame Moustache.
Then the next day, after lecture and dancing all night long, you’ll be ready to pass the test that Le Roi des Belges put in place and called “Do you know the funk?”. And what will be your answer? You’ll be funking any sentence. You’ll be speaking funk, thinking funk, flirting funk. Funk has no limit. All the names in the city will change, Potemkine knows it already: Saturday will be Potemfunk.
And then it’s Sunday. Some people understood long ago the funky potential of the time spend at the Church, obviously.
And then, after the Church (or the Market or the visit to the Museum or the walk in the Forest, the Brunch or whatever idea you have to spend your Sunday), what time is it? It’s Tea time…. and that can only be at the Tea Soul Party from Mister Emma Art Loft.
And now is the moment you can choose to let me know, discretely, that you hate Funk. Ok, I’m tolerant. I’m open minded. We might never be friends in those circumstances, sorry, but I’m not going to blame you. I kow it’s not your fault: you were probably under bad influences or your parents didn’t know… It’s ok. You can still keep reading me, don’t worry. And please don’t be jalous about that Sunday afternoon party. There’s another one with great DJ’s from New York and Berlin offering you the finest
Techno sounds you could dream of!
You see? I told you, nothing to worry about, Funk is important, but not omnipresent (well you do know that electro in all its forms is the omnipresent music out there, right?). So techno afternoon you want, you’ll have it Technoon with Eric Cloutier, Peter Van Hoesen & A.Brehme!
And it’s in the Salle Rogier where Friday night is the Lowup party for the EP launch party of Morcee.
What else can I talk to you about? Well, the Do Not Open space (in Recyclart since very recently) has an event called “Until The Light Take Us”. I love how poetic is the name and the description of it.

Talking about poetry, there’s a poetic event at the 123 (one of the oldest occupied building of the city). The Muerto Coco are going to read some contemporary poetry while playing electronical sounds. While talking about poetry and my event at la Bellone, you might want to join me at an event in Au Quai, a building occupied by a collective of artists, just in the banks of the Canal. This Saturday, they have an event called “Se Lover Au Quai”. “Se lover” means to Curl up.. but you can read it in English… and let’s love each other there… For what they promise us to be a sweet night of poetic sharing, with workshops, concerts, …
And one of the artists present that night is T-Time who happens to be one of the artists I’ve invited for the exhibition at La Bellone.
