“C’est quoi pour toi être Belge ?” demande – avec insistance – Ilyas à Bruno, dans la pièce “Contrôle d’identités”.
Alors que les réponses des uns et des autres fusent, souvent contradictoires, le principal intéressé offre au public venu en nombre pour voir le spectacle un silence presque embarrassant.
Dès les premiers mots du spectacle, la question de l’identité est sur le tapis. Le plus difficile, quand on est dans le public, c’est de parvenir à fermer sa gueule pendant que sous nos yeux les acteurs se jouent des clichés, même pas exagérés, même pas inventés, troublants de véracités.
Assise dans le public, j’ai eu, plus d’une fois envie de me lever pour faire entendre ma voix, ou interpeller l’un ou l’autre des personnages…
Se contenir est d’autant plus difficile du fait de la mise en scène particulière : on entre dans la salle et les acteurs sont tous déjà là et attendent que l’on s’installe, nous demandant s’ils peuvent commencer, offrant un café à l’un ou l’autre…
Ilyas, interpelle, questionne, motive ou coupe la parole depuis un siège dans le public cassant par là la sacro-sainte frontière qui nous sépare habituellement de la scène… Quand ce n’est pas dans les coulisses que l’action se déroule, loin de nos yeux… Et que dire quand, au détour d’un rire, l’un des comédiens demande ce qui est drôle !
Ainsi, questionnant l’identité – nationale, ethnique, sexuelle, genrée – on se rend compte que c’est toutes nos identités qui sont sur le grill, même celle, éphémère de spectateur. Quant à mon identité de “I’m Not on The Guest List” alors que j’étais gentiment invitée et donc… sur la guest list, je ne rentre même pas dans les détails !
Les spectateurs ont d’ailleurs leur mot à dire, après le spectacle, où lors d’un dialogue avec la troupe, on reprend l’une ou l’autre scène, on félicite tel acteur pour telle répartie, on n’hésite pas à dire que tel passage était choquant de l’avis de celui-ci, mais qu’un autre a trouvé ça amusant et estime qu’il faut pouvoir en rire…
Et pour moi, c’est quoi être Belge ? Je ne dis pas souvent que je suis Belge, en fait… La plupart du temps, c’est mon identité Bruxelloise qui ressort, ne fut-ce que par le biais de mes activités, telle que l’écriture de cet agenda qui se concentre exclusivement sur ce qui se déroule à Bruxelles.
Et cette identité bruxelloise, elle prend quelle forme, en fait ? Est-ce que le cours de ma pensée dépend des circonvulations de la ville ? Et quid de la ville de demain, que l’on réfléchit dès aujourd’hui avec l’ouverture de l’exposition Mobil 2040 – à Jette – où il n’est pas question d’Art, mais de la présentation des résultats de l’étude sur la mobilité…
Et puis quand je pense aux Bruxellois, je ne peux m’empêcher de voir les différentes tribus de la ville, qui se déplacent – au gré des évènements – en fonction de leur goûts musicaux. Peut-être t’intéresses-tu au hip hop (et cela dit déjà beaucoup de qui tu es…) et tu te verras, ce jeudi soir, déchiré à l’idée de devoir choisir entre deux évènements.
Le premier à l’Atelier 210 à Etterbeek qui accueille Seven & Nem, Ligne 81, Romeo Elvis et RNS & Pro Boï. Il semble que Ligne 81 a bien mis l’ambiance au Bonnefooie il y a quinze jours !
Le second se déroule au Centre Culturel Jacques Francq et c’est Mochélan qui sera sur scène.
Dans un tout autre genre, le chanteur Bai Kamara Jr nous proposera un set acoustique au Playground à Ixelles. Et j’avoue que entre les trois évènements, mon coeur balance…. mais je pense que Bai Kamara Jr emporte le match pour moi ce soir…
Et puis, comme si cela ne suffisait pas, vendredi on remet ça bien sûr ! Cette fois c’est Anwar qu’on a envie d’aller écouter au Floréo, derrière les Halles Saint Géry !
Mais peut-être qu’une partie de l’identité c’est le sens de la créativité ? Etre un artiste, ça définit pas mal une personne, non ? Après avoir vu la pièce “Contrôle d’identité”, ton âme créative voudra peut-être mettre tout cela en images…
Tu peux créer ton premier film avec quelques autres lors du Kinomariniers MMXXIV à l’Espace Mariniers
C’est quoi Kino ?
Au niveau des sorties du vendredi, il y a le choix, encore en fonction des goûts musicaux ou du style de la soirée, la Groovy Boogy Minimal Party à la Bodega proposera des sons de minimal techno, house ou lounge assez underground, il y a une Hold Dub Party encore plus underground, comme cela semble toujours être le cas quand c’est la Dub qui est proposé.
Au Tales, au centre ville, le collectif Rewind reçoit Volute Records qui nous arrive de Berlin et Curtis Zeki. Il y aura également une installation visuelle de l’artiste Thu-Van Nguyen.
Et enfin au Bazaar, là t’as deux soirées pour le prix d’une ! En sous-sol, c’est l’équipe de Origami Overtime avec en line up Owens, Pierre Passion & Keumel (qui joueront le lendemain au Ping Pong au Dillens) et Guy T. Harris
A l’étage, c’est la team Futuristik Soul X qui a invité les français French Fries, Bambounou et Korgbrain. A découvrir, donc… Là encore, mon coeur balance entre les différentes soirées, mais je pense que la diversité offerte par le Bazaar va l’emporter…
Samedi, bien sûr, c’est encore pire… Je vais commencer par ce qui est le plus loin de chez moi et où je n’irai sans doute pas : le Festival Jam’in Jette en Indoor au Centre culturel de Jette.
Plusieurs groupes y joueriont, il vaut mieux aller voir sur la page de l’événement pour découvrir les autres noms.
Il y a aussi ce qui est tout pès de chez moi, où je n’irai sans doute pas non plus (sauf peut-être comme lieu de rendez-vous avant d’aller ailleurs). Le Pantin accueille un DJ set “Jumpin Chaak”.
Je n’irai sans doute pas non plus à la The House & Acid Sound of London au London Calling
ni à la Soul Salad au Tavernier, deux soirées dont les noms sont assez explicites quant au genre pour m’éviter de tenter de les décrire. Si tu ne veux pas d’une grosse sortie, je pense que les soirées dans l’un ou l’autre de ces bars devraient te convenir. A noter que le London Calling a quand même une cave insonorisée et transformée en club où il est possible de danser jusqu’aux petites heures.
Il y a aussi une soirée Catclub Special Hamburg Edition à la Wild Gallery, soirées très réputées quant à la qualité musicale (on est dans la gamme “électro”) et pour son public aux identités sexuelles variées.
Une autre soirée électro de qualité, c’est celle qui a lieu tous les samedis au Wood, la Number Six qui, avec Playlabel, nous présente Gregor Tresher cette semaine…
La place du Luxembourg, a une identité fort européenne. En tout cas le jeudi soir… Le samedi, le Coco Bar ouvre ses portes à un tout autre type d’organisateurs et de musique. C’est ainsi que Da Bluefunk Apt presents Portformat, Dr Kwest.
Premier samedi du mois, il y a bien sûr la Strictly Niceness Resident Night où les sons les plus grooves se disputeront le coeur des danseurs sur la piste !
Le dernier né de Nicolay, qui a donné une identité assez similaires aux cafés bruxellois, s’appelle Bravo. C’est avec intérêt que j’ai lu l’un ou l’autre article au sujet de cette cafétaria le jour, jazz club le soir. Des promesses très claires sont faites pour expliquer le concept : “On n’a pas envie d’en faire un endroit de nuit avec de la musique agressive. On fermera à minuit avec une programmation de pointe de jeunes talents qui se produiront sans amplification. Il n’y aura pas de DJ. Sauf de temps en temps un DJ set de musique classique“, ok, le dernier détail aurait du me mettre la puce à l’oreille quant au réalisme de leur propos..
Et donc c’est en toute logique que de “temps en temps” c’est déjà maintenant. Et que nous avons donc deux DJ’s qui vont prendre d’assaut le bar samedi soir. A partir de 22 heures. Pour de la musique “classique”.
Et sinon, au rayon des soirées alternatives, le Phare – un squat sur Ixelles – est encore occupé malgré sa fermeture il y a quelques mois… Donc, une nouvelle soirée y est organisée avec de la musique “techno, minimal, acid, drum,…” m’indique-t-on dans le mail… Je n’ai pas le nom du ou des DJ’s de la soirée.
Heureusement pour dimanche, le choix est beaucoup plus facile à réaliser. L’évènement commence à 16 heures et il s’agit d’une des fêtes de lancement dans le cadre du Dimension Festival Worldwide Launch Party
L’idée c’est de faire connaître ce festival qui a lieu fin août en Croatie… et autant dire que l’endroit à l’air idyllique…. quant au Line Up, rien à dire non plus ! Enfin, mon regard s’est arrêté à Gilles Peterson et je n’ai franchement pas cherché à voir plus loin, je suis convaincue ….
A Bruxelles, on reçoit, au Fuse, Boo Williams & Seven Davies Jr Live, histoire de tout doucement se mettre dans l’ambiance en attendant l’été…
Lundi soir, c’est le Music Village qui me fait de l’oeil et en particulier le concert de Adomas. Je ne connaissais pas l’artiste, mais j’ai parcouru quelques vidéos qui donnent une idée de son univers que je trouve fascinant…
Mercredi soir, c’est le retour des concerts du néant absolu et de la mort au Greylight Project à Saint-Josse avec un set de MSHR et des projections de Internet2.
C’est ce mercredi que débute le Offscreen Film Festival qui laisse la place à des films anti-conformistes, souvent jamais sortis au cinéma…
L’ouverture a lieu au Cinéma Nova avec le film L’étrange couleur des larmes de ton corps. Moi, un titre pareil, cela me donne furieusement l’envie de contrôler l’identité de celui dont on parle !

I think I never said a word about the pictures I use as cover of my articles. The pictures comes from my Instagram (my favourite social media). I try to always choose the one who has a link to what I’m saying in the article.
For example, my article “Romance” who was published for the Valentine’s week-end: showed a street art piece with a big heart and the word on “Hate” in the middle of it. So that one must have been kind of obvious, right?
Some are obvious only to me actually… My little personal gimmick… But what about this week’s photography?
It shows my favourite peeing sculpture, the Zinneke, who’s just peeing as usual, but, thanks to the creativity of a street artist who placed the word “racism” in the right place, it looks like the dog is peeing on racism… I choose it because yesterday, I went to see a play called “Contrôle d’identités” and one of the questions was “What is being a Belgian?” and it’s a difficult question to answer as many Belgians are coming for diverse origins, makins us all bastards… or Zinneke, as we say in our Brussels typical language!
The play questions also the racism, the integration issues, the clichés we all have about “the other”, the differences on religion, sexual orientation or identity, … It’s in French and they speak just like any french speaker on the street: quick, using some familiar words, etc.. so if you don’t master the language, I’m afraid you’ll miss the point, but don’t hesitate to encourage anyone around you (you do know some french speakers, right?) to go and see it! It’s amazing, deep, funny, it’s multimedia and the public is more than welcome to have an open discussion with the comedians after the show!
If you’re interested about urbanism, mobility in the city and the possible future of Brussels, there’s an exhibition who will show the results of a study about those aspects made by Mobil 2040, to see in Jette.
L’Atelier 210 and the Jacques Francq cultural center do both have an hip hop concert this Thursday night!
In Etterbeek it’s several artists: Seven & Nem, Ligne 81, Romeo Elvis et RNS & Pro Boï
Two weeks ago I talked to you about an event where Ligne 81 was playing at the Bonnefooie, so to discover the band, have a look at the video they took during their last gig!
In Saint-Gilles, it’s an artist from Charleroi who’s invited, Mochélan. His video offer an overview to his city who tend to have a bad reputation and is – generally – not considered attractive to visit (or to live).
In Ixelles, at the Playground, there’s once again an acoustic concert with a groovy kind of artist. This week we have Bai Kamara Jr, a talentend singer and musician… He’s very classy, good looking and very a very sweet gentleman! Worth to get to know him and to discover his music in a nice and easy going atmosphere!
Friday, we’ll start with some creative works: like makin a movie with absolutely no money during the Kinomariniers MMXXIV at Espace Mariniers.
That’s kind of what the Kino is about, right? The goal is to make a movie. Right now…. So just get started, the skills and ideas will come while in… Action!
The Friday do also offers an accoustic treat with Anwar who’s playing at the Floreo, one of the bars behind Saint-Gery.
If you want to party, you have some choice: A few weeks ago, I spend an evening in Epaulé-Jeté, in Flagey. Can’t remember who was the DJ, but that was a nice set. Four guys arrive in the bar and they got my attention because they were taking a lot of space while we were dancing. I mean: I know it’s winter and we have big jackets. I know that guys are usually bigger and taller than me, but when you have several big guys together and they keep their jackets on… Well you’ve got the picture, right?
Finally, when I was on my way out, they were next to me again, with all their drinks and not really seemed to enjoy the night. Then I catch the words of one of them saying that the music… sucks.
Well, if you’ve read more than one of my articles, you should know me by now… I don’t use that kind of words to describe an event or the work of people… I tend to talk only about what I like but also about things that I don’t like but I genuinely believe that – if it’s your cup of tea – you will like it. If I thing that something “sucks” (and I’m no saint, so, yes I might have that kind of thoughts for some events organized in this town…), I simply skip the moment I have to talk about it…
So, hearing that made me reacting, and I specifically said to the guy that the music didn’t suck but was just probably not his taste. And because I’m “Yelyam the ideas to go out providers” not only when I’m writing this article but also when I talk to people… I asked him what kind of music he likes… And he said “Minimal” (actually he said “meuhnemoool”).
And you know what? I couldn’t tell him where to go! I had nothing in mind about that specific kind of electro music! Of course, I saw it as a challenge… It took me some time, but here we go with the Groovy Boogy Minimal Party, this Friday, at la Bodega!
Mission complete, right? And you know what? I have another minimal proposal for Saturday!
For some reasons, the dub parties are always more underground than any other type of parties. So the Hold Dub Party in no exception taking place at the Unibox.
If you don’t want to go to a party but still have some electro dose, just go to the Tales, in the center: the collective Rewind invites Volute Records and Curtis Zeki or the marriage between Berlin and Brussels… (sigh…)
And if you don’t know what to choose, I would then suggest to go to the Bazaar: you’ll have two parties for the price of one! And many Dj’s to discover:
On the Basement room, the Origami Overtime team presents Robert Owens, Pierre Passion & Keumel (who will be playing Ping Pong the next day at Dillens), Guy T. Harris
The main room is taking over by the Futuristik Soul X team, and they invited french dh’s : French Fries, Bambounou and Korgbrain
And it’s Saturday… with even more choices!
If you want a festival, there’s the Jam’in’Jette indoor (as it’s an outdoor festival in May, but do organise this special winter session).
If your favourite sport is the Bar crawling wich requires probably the same amount of liquid than a swimming pool crawling, you should put in your itinerary the following bars:
Le Dillens, in Saint-Gilles and its “Grand Ping Pong with Bernard Lad
Le Tavernier (in Cimetière d’Ixelles) and the Soul Salad
Le Pantin (in Flagey) and the DJ set Jumpin Chaak and
London Calling (in Place de Londres) and The House & Acid Sound of London and make sure to not miss the basement, who makes this bar looks exactly like the ones in the infamous Kingsland Road, in Dalston (East London)!
Then you’ll head to the Plux and the Coco Bar, with Da Bluefunk in the appartment with Portformat and Dr Kwest
And you can finish at Bravo Beat Pattern despites the fact they said to the press that the concept of the bar is about acoustic concerts and shutting the doors at midnight and not having DJ sets except for classical music. And that’s with that detail I realised that they were just making fun of us… I mean Classical music Dj Set? Really?
And indeed, one of their fist week-end and they are already breaking their words!
If you want to skip this whole spending the night in the bars thing, you better go to a good party directly:
There’s the Catclub Special Hamburg Edition at the Wild Gallery, in Forest.
Not to mention the Number Six parties, every Saturday at the Wood, in the middle of Bois de la Cambre. This week, they receive, together with the Playlabel team, the DJ Gregor Tresher
If you’re more sensitive to groove, soul, hip hop sounds, the monthly party Strictly Niceness is there for you at la Bodega.
And, as promised, some more minimal: there’s a party at Le Phare (a squat in a beautiful house in Ixelles) and the mail I’ve received didn’t gave me the details about the DJ, but only the music type: “techno, minimal, acid, drum, …”.
In Croatia, at the end of August, in a beautiful place, the Dimension Festival takes place. People enjoy the music, the sun, the beach and the amazing architecture of the venue.
In order to make people to get to know about the festival, there’s in more than 50 cities around the world the Dimension Festival Worldwide Launch Party. Brussels is one of them and the party is an Ensemble on a Sunday afternoon with Boo Williams & Seven Davies Jr Live at the Fuse!
On Monday night, why not discover the world of Adomas during his Concert at the Music Village?
I’ve check several videos and I really enjoyed what I heard..
Another underground event must be probably this one on Wednesday at the Greylight Project in Saint-Josse. The name of the organizer is “Les concerts du néant absolu et de la mort” – which I found is hilarious – and the artists are MSHR and Internet2 who will screen some short movies. Of course everything is experimental!
Experimental, is also a label you can use for the many movies screened during the Offscreen Film Festival
starting today!
Have fun and not only a minimal level of fun, ok?
