Agenda 22/01/2014 – 26/01/2014
This week, there’s many concerts going on in Brussels! Well I know there’s always a lot of concerts, of course, I must say “there’s a lot of concerts I want to attend to”!
It starts this Wednesday: the Floreo (a bar behind Saint-Gery) is hosting the “Jam in Brussels” event and it starts with a gig by Anwar (as usual, all the links to the events are at the bottom of the article, after the french version).
The same day, it’s Cougars in America and Chris Sand who are playing at the Live Music Cafe, an event organised by “Les Soirées Cerises”, this organisation is responsible alone for at least one concert a week in this city! It’s amazing!
And if you are not decided yet, there’s other concerts at the Beursschouwburg: Valerie Solanas and Kras & Blijvoet.
All those concerts are free entry and all in the same neighborhood… So it makes it easy to change if you decide to.
In another part of the city, Forest, the Bar du Matin is welcoming the Photomatic evening, like everty Wednesdays! It’s an evening dedicated to photography that you can discover in the screen and there’s a groovy DJ set at the end of the presentation. A nice and cosy evening!
And if you want to party in the middle of the week, go to Madame Moustache (in Saint Catherine) for their “In ‘80’ We Trust” Party!! The title say it all….
And here we are on Thursday where we can start already at noon: there’s a shop in Place Stéphanie, called “Smuggler”. I must say that as they are selling clothers for men (suits, ….), I never paid much attention.
Anyway, the house is beautiful and I bet the interior is too… it seems that they have some space and a taste for jazz music, as they are welcoming musicians for a lunch session! This week it’s the guitarist Guillaume Guillain.
Thursdays are known to be the exhibiton’s openings night! So it’s a day I get prepare to go to one of the many galleries that our city has and discover some artwork and artists or collective.
If you are in Brussels long enough and even if you don’t car about street art, you must have heard of Bonom, the most knwon and popular artist in Brussels. There’s an exhibition tonight of his drawings and pictures taken by Ian Dykmans who followed Bonom in the streets… There’s also a book published about Bonom works to be discoverd there!
I don’t know if you have paid attention to the fact that the area around Wiels in Forest is becoming a real artsy area: Avenue Van Volxem, Theodore Verhaegen street and the many little streets around are full of art spaces!
For example De La Charge gallery. If you don’t know it, there’s tonight an event “Seoul Fonts Karaoke”, it’s an “OSP Print Party”. Well don’t ask me too much: what I understood is that OSP (Open Source Publishing – a graphic design agency using exclusively open source’s softwares) had a workshop few months ago in Seoul with some local artists.
One of the tool they were using is a computer system of alphabet recognition. But being artists, they used their creativity of course… Well this has to be discovered tonight together with some pictures of their trip.
In Saint-Gilles, there’s the mu$ée de$ erreur$ open doors of the studio of artists Charles Quincunx, Jean-Philippe van den Hove and Arnaud Poncelet. For the occasion, there’s also a set by musician Jeff Monheim.
For the electro lovers, in Café Tigre (Flagey), there’s a DJ set by ChoKapix.
If you are a Metal lover, you’ll try the El Polly of Filth Metal Sessions, in the “Loll Bar” a very weird place I would never suggest anyone to go usually. I would not even thing of this place as having something going on actually.
But then I saw the event and I know that Brussels is not full of places where you can listen to Metal and the organisators has to be very creative and persuasive to find a venue…
Friday night: let’s just party!
If you like some alternative party, there’s a “Bennethon Party”: Ben is an artist who’s lost everything a couple of months ago when his place burned. So his friends and relatives are organising a party to raise some money to help him. The line up is huge of nearly unknown (to me) DJ. Well I know one of them and I know he’s good. And there’s a big chance that the crowd will be very cool.
There’s always an electro party somewhere too: one of the best in town is the Leftorium parties, held in Bazaar Club. They have a special event this week for their 3rd Anniversary with DJ Hell as guest!
Saturday night: let’s also just party!
Plac du Luxembourg (also known by Place Lux or even only “Plux” by the Eurocrat community) is normally the place to be on Thursday night. All the bars are full of people drinking and talking to each other about E.U regulations or human relations possibilities…
But from time to time, one of the bars, the Coco bar, is hosting other type of events in the “appartment” just above the cafe/restaurant. this Saturday it’s a groovy/soul sessions with artists Coultrane and Soul T, organised by Da Bluefunk District.
A touch of reggae will be served Chez Jacques, in Molenbeek, with the Soul Vibration Reggae Dance, but also at Bazaar with the Dancehall Station Party
If you would like to stick to electro the Wood will be your destination as Saturday is the Number Six Parties there. This week with Dj’s Siler & Dima.
If you need something more than just parties during the week-end, you might want to go to one of the concerts of the Festival Sacré Saint-Gillois. You’ll get to discover some local musicians during one of the many gigs held from Friday to Sunday.
And on Sunday, if you really do have a taste for discoveries and like the alternative culture, you’ll be interrested by the Festival Sounds of Belgian Underground 2014, organised by Ancienne Belgique. Different type of music, check the link and google the names to get to know a bit more about all the bands of the line up!
And finally, I’ll try to find some time to go and see the skateboard exhibition at Association du Patrimoine artistique. I’ve received a mail about from a reader telling me this is really worth to visit.. So thanks for the tip and I’ll surely go this week!
*******
On y découvre Cougars of America et Chris Sand.
